After a fitful night of sleep (thinking about work), went out for a cold walk on Bedford rail trail. Skipped breakfast. Then wife and I went Christmas shopping on what was probably busiest shopping season of year but pretty much got it all done with no stress whatsoever. Tracking a big snowstorm that is supposed to hit tonight. Was cold and cloudy all day and as of 10PM, snow still to the south. Seems too dry to snow right now but it's supposedly coming.

Need to hire 3 people now!

Was hoping for a relatively quiet to end the very hectic workweek but not to be. Morning was not too bad but things got crazy in afternoon with conference calls and some stressful situations at work. Also had an informal Christmas party after work up north with coworkers and had to drive home around 1PM to get wife (during conference calls) and stayed until about 7PM. Another frigid day, was about 4 degrees this morning but got my full walk in. After leaving work (the party), my car wouldn't start because battery cable came loose (had it jumpstarted). Got home and took a good walk. Lots of talk about a big snowstorm this weekend.

Not a bad Saturday. Started off with a walk on the icy/snow bike path in Bedford. Went out and got a Christmas tree with youngest son. Did another icy walk around the neighborhood and lit a fire in the fireplace where we decorated tree after youngest son came home after work. Crazy weather day. Woke up to pouring rain, some of the hardest rain I've seen in a while. When I got to work, the skies started to suddenly clear and the winds blew to over gale force. Went for walk in Groton state forest and towards the end of the walk, the dog got lost in woods for a while - some boaters in the river spooked it. After about 20 minutes of walking up and down the trail, finally found it. Spent rest of afternoon putting reflectors in yard and doing some minor raking. The yard is finally ready for winter. Had to treat the shed for squirrels as well as they returned even after I cleaned out their nest yesterday.

Put some Christmas lights up on outside of house and Christmas lights are just about finished as well. Another mild day today - lower 50s.

Finally got caught up on leaf raking for the most part. Took walk in Dunstable/Pepperell woods and then took dog for grooming appointment. Picked up "Aztec" by Gary Jennings at the bookstore along with the Palin book. Then raked most of day. Only a few piles in the backyard remain as well as a few in the shrubbery in front of house. Otherwise lawns look almost as clean as a golf course. Hung Christmas lights in the living room but stopped early as I'm totally exhausted. Did get to see New England beat NY Jets 31-14. Weather again was relatively mild - nothing like last year at this time when winter was setting in.

Spent entire workday up north today. Didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted to but a good day. Got plenty of walking in. Temperatures cranked lower today but still not too bad. A bit of a strange day. My wife had eye surgery today so I left work early. Not that I got much done at work. Was 34 degrees in the morning but got close to 60 during day. Spent the night watching some election results and was much more pleasurable than last year at this time! Perfect day to end a near-perfect long weekend. Very strange Halloween. For one thing, it felt weird having yesterday off and so today had that Sunday feel to it. Secondly, it was extremely warm! Temps soared into the low 70s. Around noon, it turned extremely windy and the leaves were blowing off the trees in large amounts. Still made a major dent with lawn raking though I'm still very sore from yesterday. My iPods are all set for eight weeks of Christmas music starting tomorrow. The day had kind of a surreal feel to it. Although this is the real beginning of the winter season, it was definitely a summer like day. As I write this (8PM), it is still in the upper 60s with some rain and a cold front moving in. Played some Halloween music on Sirius for the trick-or-treaters.

A perfect autumn day. Deep blue skies, mild temps and a crisp, cold night. Took 7.5 walk on Groton bike trail to start the day and saw leaves falling off the trees almost constantly. Heard Bach Cantata 49 on the way home where I raked leaves and saw New England Patriots win 35-7 against Tampa Bay (in London). Went to family birthday party and listened to most of Mozart's Idomeneo on way home. Started a new book "The House of Lost Souls" which seems pretty good for the Halloween season. A mostly rainy Saturday but still got plenty of walking in. Woke up to pouring rain but it stopped long enough to take a decent walk in Bedford, taking a little-used trail up towards Concord. Got wet in the beginning but stopped raining for the rest of the way. Then walked the Chelmsford bike trail in the afternoon during another dry slot. Other than that, rain, heavy at times but temps warmed and hit the mid 60s by late evening.

Saw a "free" movie on TV called "I Know What You Did Last Summer" which was some kind of Halloween horror flick. Getting a lot of reading done lately. Finished "A Simple Plan" and that was probably the 10th book I've read this month so far. This was a rare instance where I liked the movie better than the book.

Started day with 7+ mile walk in Estabrook woods. Got a haircut and mowed the lawn again as it is easier than raking. It was a cool day but surprisingly the sun was out for most of it after thinking it would be mostly cold and wet. Tonight and tomorrow, a heavy rainstorm is due to move in.

It was snowing out when I took the dog for a walk this morning, it snowed the entire walk and while too warm to stick to the pavement, grassy surfaces and most roofs were snow covered in the early morning darkness. As soon as it turned light, the snow started melting quickly but it snowed and spitted rain most of morning. Wife got back from Houston today. Another crazy day at work and I'm glad to have this week over. Left a little early to get son at college and took a long walk tonight to make up for a lack of a noontime walk.

Cold front came through last night and it was in 40s this morning. Slept late again and didn't get out of house until 9AM and it was still in upper 50s. Mowed some lawn, went to drive some golf balls at the driving range and then took a second very long walk on new Chelmsford/Westford bike trail. Got a very thick porterhouse at the butcher shop and grilled it up with a batch of jalapenos. Gave bone to the dog. Didn't get much time for reading but a very good day. Shortly after packing, I headed to the Whole Foods to fill my house up with real food. One thing about down South is that they are still about 20 years behind on nutrition. Their supermarkets are full of highly processed foods and poor quality meats and many of the foods I'm used to are nowhere to be found down there unless you are near major city like Atlanta. If you are into Oreo cookies, potato chips, packaged deli meats, etc., the South is the place to be. No wonder the obesity problem is even bigger down there than it is up here.

Anyway, the trip down South this year may well be my last for a while and for many other reasons than described above. Good to be back!

Long day of driving. Woke at Best Western in Chattanooga (after torrential t-storm the night before) and after the obligatory Waffle House for breakfast, drove some 550+ miles up to Winchester, VA along mostly I-81. Trip was uneventful and due to lack of satellite radio, spent most of day surfing through the mostly horrid terrestrial radio stations. Almost nothing but country and gospel. I'll never complain about the $10 a month I pay for satellite radio again!

Upon arriving, left dog in hotel and took son and niece to Olive garden for dinner. Also purchased the 2010 Farmer's Almanac on impulse.

Weird day. Woke up in Alabama thinking I would spend the whole day there but ended the day in Chattanooga, TN. Even had time to do the obligatory Lookout Mountain thing with the cog railway. Might be my last trip to Alabama for a long, long time. Trip did not go well and it feels good to be out of there. Hot day, low 90s.
