Spent the entire day in Vermont and Keene, New Hampshire after waking up in some Vermont bed and breakfast. Still got flu but feeling gradually better.
Breakfast: Two eggs over easy on a german potato pancake, fruit salad, two pieces banana bread.
Lunch: Santa Fe soup (a bunch of vegetables in a spicy chowder-type broth) with piece of bread.
Dinner: Thai Food (pad thai, white rice, some kind of squid dish with vegetables and some sauce). Thai dumplings.
Liquids: Coffee, cranberry juice, iced tea, two glasses zinfandel, one bottle of some Oregon wine that was pretty good.
Walked over 13,500 steps
Very restful day today. Last night and this night, wife and I spent many hours in front of the fireplace at the bed and breakfast in Vermont. Saw a movie up in Keene (Atonement). Walked around Keene a lot and took a great walk around the bed and breakfast which was very scenic.

Well I feel a lot better than yesterday but still tired so I'm going to bed early again. As I type this, we are under total eclipse of the moon. Very strange that nobody seems to be outside watching it. I was walking the dog a short time ago and you could see everybody in their house watching TV.

Mothballs
It was a holiday today (Washington/Lincoln Birthday) but went to work anyway and it was great to have the office pretty much to myself and not hit any traffic on the roads.

Dinner: Two chicken legs, sweet potato, olive oil, peanuts, dried cranberries.

Xanadu
Had good night sleep but can't remember the dreams (but they were good).
Breakfast: Stonyfield Strawberry Yogurt
Lunch: Two Pumpernickel rounds; raisins; dried cranberries; peanut butter and crackers
Dinner: Peanuts
Liquids: Two coffees, one Propel, three Pilsner Urquells, several glasses wine.
Walked over 13,000 steps
Including a walk through my childhood neighborhood. It's amazing how small the neighborhood seems, when I was young, it seemed like a large landscape. Yet I whipped through the streets in no time at all and was amazed that the convenience stores were maybe a 2-3 minute walk from my childhood home yet when I was a kid, it seemed like a real chore to have to walk there.
One startling thing. As I walked up my old street, I remembered a warm summer night walking my dog (obviously not the dog I have now) when I took it off the lease (a chain lease) and throwing it up in the air and catching it. At the bottom of my street, the lease wrapped around a power line. This was back around 1975. I looked up and sure enough, the chain was still there. A bit rusted but still there after some 32+ years.
The neighborhood was literally falling apart. Houses abandoned, some of them boarded up. It was pretty sad to see.

When Is Trash Day Static?
Icy cold morning, about 6 above, and took shorter walk then usual, not because it was cold but because it took me a while to get started. On the way to work, I passed a tall flagpole and saw a platform about 40 feet off the ground. I imagined myself stuck up there and thinking about how to get back down - I'd probably have to wait for a firetruck but by then, I'd be frostbitten.

Moxy Fruvous
Day of snow squalls, a walk in the Groton woods this morning with dog and then taking said dog to get groomed. Meant to spend a couple hours in bookstore to buy books but never really got around to it. Day went by fast. Getting very cold out there, it is down to 12 degrees as I write this. Back to work tomorrow but very restful weekend for a change.

Slept well last night and really needed this weekend. Took long walk in Carlisle-Concord with dog this morning and ran into this girly-man who was really scared of my dog just because he barked a little. Of course, the sissy made things worse by waving his arms and screaming like a girl and my dog got even more riled up. Anyway, I was able to collar the dog and get us away from him.
For the afternoon walk, I went to New Hampshire and had a great walk there as it started to snow and it was like a Christmas post card. Ran into another dog-walker and we let the dogs chase each other around for a while.
Breakfast: Two sunflower rounds
Lunch: Roast lamb with rice and spinach.
Dinner: Roast beef with rice and olive oil.
Liquids: Two Heinekens, One Pilsner Urquell, one coffee, four JC minis, three glass zinfandel.
Walked 17,000 steps.
Lit a fire in the fireplace tonight. Almost done with "World Without End" and I expect to finish it tomorrow.
In the presidential primaries, Obama swept all and it looks like Huckabee will on the GOP side as well. Too bad Romney didn't stay in the race, he could have picked up a couple wins I think.

Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Went to bed early last night as I was still tired and slept a good amount. Just before waking up, I had weird dream that I was looking out my bathroom window and saw a street outside (my house normally looks out onto woods) with a bunch of buildings along it. One partially completed warehouse type building collapsed as I was looking at it right behind a building that had some kind of Christian Science Monitor sign in front of it. Shortly, that building came down too and there was a huge cloud of dust and debris coming my way. I ran outside into the street and police cars screamed into the area and started blocking off roads.
Breakfast: Stonyfield Strawberry Yogurt
Lunch: Two Sunflower Rounds
Dinner: Flatbread pizza, dried cranberries, peanuts
Liquids: Five Pilsner Urquells, two coffees, one Propel.
Walked only about 10,500 steps. Another day of clouds, mist, rain, snow, etc.

True Faith
Went to bed with pouring rain and woke up with snow. Had a deep sleep and dreamed mostly of work. 5AM came early. Saw deer tracks in the snow while walking dog in pre-dawn darkness. One never realizes how many wild animals are around until you see all the tracks in fresh-fallen snow.
Breakfast: Stonyfield Strawberry Yogurt.
Lunch: Two sunflower rounds
Dinner: Prime rib, broccoli soup, some banana bread, rice, squash, dried cranberries.
Liquids: Two coffees. Four JC minis. One Sam Adams Winter Lager
Walked 12,000+ steps.
Another cloudy damp day with off and on snow.

Explosions In The Sky
Woke up at 5AM after only three hours sleep...not enough. Was so tired I couldn't even drink my coffee. That is a weird thing, but when I get plenty of sleep, I drink more coffee but when I don't get enough sleep, I just don't like it.
It was another rainy morning and my walk with the dog was shortened again. The entire day was dark, drippy and wet.

Who Am I? Why Am I Here?
Pouring rain this morning, took dog for short walk only and still drenched. Wasn't until after lunchtime that I was able to walk in any significant way. Worked up north today and didn't even get to the office - which is a good thing.
Breakfast - Stonyfield Strawberry Yogurt
Lunch - Two Sunflower Rounds
Dinner - Wheat pasta with meatballs, olive oil, a little tomato sauce, raisins, dried blueberries, peanuts.
Liquids - Three coffees. Three Pilsner Urquells. One bottle Mead.
Walked about 11,500 steps today.
I can feel my ribs again as the fat melts away. Had a lot of energy and got a lot done today.
Today was "Super Tuesday" in the presidential primaries. Still a three-person race for GOP as Huckabee takes most of South, McCain takes most of Northeast and Romney takes most of west. But California results are still coming in and that could tilt balance by morning. For Dems, Obama pretty much rolled but still that is a two-person race at the present time.
Soggy wet day today. Most of snow is melted and it is foggy, raw and cold out there. More of same for days to come it seems. I think I'm ready for Spring.

Book Without End
Had best night of sleep in a while - just about nine hours. Had some strange dreams. One I remember vividly, I was on top of the Empire State Building with my family. We were on an open balcony that sloped down with no railing! So here we were some 100 stories above the streets of New York City and one slip would plunge us to our death. Oddly, nobody seemed perturbed by that fact and my dog was trotting around the edge of of the sloped balcony like it was the most normal thing in the world. One part of the balcony led out onto some sort of deck and people were sitting out there on chairs and tables, again no railing to protect them from falling.
Right across from us, mounted on what looked like radio antennas, was a huge billboard showing a map of the United States. I got concerned about the dog going off the railing so we put it in some kind of protective sleeve so it couldn't walk anywhere. The only problem was, we had to hold the dog because if we put it down, it would just roll down the sloped balcony into into the streets below.
Just before that dream was even a better one that I vaguely remember. I was in an enclosed building that was full of water and I was suspended by some sort of mechanical device on a cable. I had an oxygen tank on. If I released some kind of clutch mechanism, I fell into the water and dived below. I never did hit bottom and I had to bring myself back above the surface and try again.
SO I woke up very late - around 8AM. Took dog for six mile walk in Bedford, took down the last of the Christmas lights and then out for another walk at Cranberry bogs. I then lit a fire in the fireplace and tried finishing "World Without End" by Ken Follett. I'm up to about page 870 with still about 150 pages to go. It is actually more like "Book Without End."
Breakfast: Wheat Bagel
Lunch: Two hard-boiled eggs. Two sunflower rounds.
Dinner: White Bean Soup with spinach, crackers and cheese. Two handfuls raisins.
Liquids: Two coffees. Four JC minis. One bottle Mead.
Tomorrow is the Super Bowl.
